Dry vs. Dehydrated Skin

Yes, there is a difference between the two. 

Dry Skin:

  • Genetics 

  • Permanent skin type

  • Lack of skin’s natural oil production

  • Skin is dry, rough, flaky, scaly etc. 

Dehydrated Skin:

  • Not genetics

  • Temporary skin condition

  • Lack of water/hydration not oil (ex. Oily or Combo skin types can be dehydrated too)

  • Cause by external factors

Signs of Dehydrated Skin:

  • Increased sensitivity causing redness, irritation etc

  • Itchy skin 

  • Skin is dull and tight

  • Fine line/wrinkles

Cause of Dehydrated Skin: 

  • Outdoor environment

  • Hot shower and baths

  • Air conditioning

  • Harsh chemical skin care

  • Poor diet

  • Humidifier 

  • Drink water (obviously)

Try: 

  • Add hyaluronic acid into your skin care

  • Avoid caffeine/alcohol

  • Add water rich food in your diet: cucumber, tomatoes, watermelon, strawberries

  • Not only stay away from the sun but dry wintry air too

  • Lukewarm showers
